To the FA Cup,
From the scrapping of FA Cup replays to the ludicrous timings of matches, it appears you have no care for lower-league clubs and their fans. Yet again you have managed to ruin the magic of the FA Cup and what would have been a brilliant draw for myself and other Posh fans by arranging the tie for a Thursday night.
The anticipation of waiting for the ball to be picked out. The reaction to being drawn against a Premier League side. The excitement of a great day out at Everton. The prospect of watching a match at historical ground Goodison Park before Everton move elsewhere – one which Posh have never visited before.
All of this has been taken away because of you.
A Thursday night game will inevitably halve the number of Posh supporters travelling. A four-hour trip to Merseyside and no doubt a longer journey back given the guaranteed roadworks somewhere in England. The employed will be strapped for time and all our young Posh supporters will be stuck at school whilst the coaches depart at 1pm.
And top it all off – it’s not even on proper television. It’s on iPlayer. So, to all our loyal elderly supporters they’ll be forced to watch it via a streaming service. My grandparents don’t even have the internet so my 86 year-old Grandad won’t be able to watch his beloved team play.
But why would this matter to you?
As long as the bigger clubs are happy. As long as TV conglomerates can show their poorly selected games.
Now I understand for several reasons that Liverpool and Everton cannot play at home on the same day but why not select Posh for a Friday night game? Surely there’s more magic in Everton vs Posh (sides almost 50 places apart) than an all-Premier League tie vs Aston Villa vs West Ham United?
Well done to Posh for trying to reverse the decision but status and money talks.
Money means so much at the League One level. You’ve already taken away the excitement of replays. Now, an amazing FA Cup draw with the potential big cash return in gate receipts and TV money has vanished too.
The magic is vanishing, and with it the excitement and joy of knockout football.
Yours Sincerely,
A lifelong Posh fan
