January Fantasy Football

It’s the month when fantasy football is the trickiest to navigate! Injuries and squad rotations come into play, and when you think a team is predictably reliable (cough* Manchester City) their form appears to have dropped off the face of the earth. And to top it all off the transfer window is open!

December saw Amorim publicly say that relegation isn’t off the cards for Manchester United and dropped Marcus Rashford from consecutive matchday squads. Liverpool’s Mo Salah continues performing like no one else with 7 goals and 7 assists in 6 matches in December. Phil Foden finally scored his first goal of the season for Manchester City. Wolves have seen a managerial bounce with Victor Periera in charge whilst Southampton have slightly improved under new boss Ivan Juric.

With European football coming to an end to its group stages, several teams will be looking to secure their place in their knock-out rounds which could be at the expense of their league form. Whilst Liverpool are cruising, Manchester City are on the cusps of an embarrassing exit.

New Year, Same Me

If you haven’t got Mo Salah in your team then why are you even playing fantasy football? With 14 goal involvements in 6 matches in December, the Egyptian picked up 82 points. This month, Liverpool have Manchester United (I can’t see United’s defence keeping Liverpool quiet!), Nottingham Forest (a tougher test), Brentford (matches in this stadium are always high-scoring) and Ipswich (a positive team that leaves it open at the back). I can easily see Salah adding to his goals tally.

Newcastle had a prolific December too with Alexander Isak scoring 8 in his last 6 matches. At £9.2m, I’m sure you have room for him in your team.

Raise Your Glasses (Money)

With Manchester City seemingly crumbling without Rodri and Arsenal now set to play without Saka for the next two months, there’s a high possibility that teams will be looking to make some key signings in the transfer window.

With Barcelona looking more and more likely to be unable to sign Dani Olmo for the remainder of the season, the tricky winger could be available for free; the perfect addition to any top team. Think wisely and save a free transfer for when the inevitable signings do come.
